Straight Up: The Mix2Vial Needle-Free Transfer Device

Mix2Vial^™ supposedly made mixing Helixate^® FS easier and faster, but at first my sons and I didn’t want to try it. After all these years, we were used to a set routine using the old transfer needle method. We didn’t want to take the time to learn something new. Still, I kept hearing good things about Mix2Vial^™ and decided to give it a try, so I watched the video online at CSLbehringmix2vial.com. I learned how to use the device in only a few minutes.

Now, my sons and I only use the Mix2Vial^™ to mix Helixate^® FS. I mix Zachary’s factor in less than 10 minutes. That includes mixing it all up, finding the vein—the whole nine yards. It’s really simple and quick! The old method took twice as long because of all the individual steps involved. Now we don’t have to bother with all that. With Mix2Vial^™, there isn’t a lot of stuff to mess with. It’s all there in one package, one complete unit. You just snap it on, flip it over, pull it off—it’s done. At first I wasn’t pulling the plastic straight up after I pushed the blue tip into the top of the sterile water vial and the device came back off with the plastic still on it. I realized that I wasn’t pulling it straight up, but once I did, the plastic slid right off the device and I was flying. It’s impossible to do it wrong, because even if you don’t pull it straight up, you never lose the vacuum like you did with the transfer needle. I’ve probably mixed Helixate^® FS half a dozen times since then and haven’t had an issue once.

I don’t have to worry about poking myself with a needle anymore because Mix2Vial^™ is needle-free. There are fewer sharps needed too, because most of it is disposable in the regular trash. That’s never a bad thing!

I mixed Helixate^® FS using the Mix2Vial^™ for both of the boys last night and together we went through five boxes of factor. When I was done, I thought, “That wasn’t so bad.” And the boys agreed.

And here’s an added bonus: I have less worry and stress on my mind when the boys are using it, because I know they aren’t going to poke themselves. I can leave the room and give them a little freedom and independence, allowing them to mix Helixate^® FS on their own and build their confidence. I’m not hovering to make sure they’re not doing it wrong. Because you CAN’T do it wrong.

The kids don’t give me half as much trouble when it’s time to mix Helixate^® FS. Of course, they still don’t want to sit down and take time out of their social schedules, but when I tell them to go mix their factor, they do it. They’re not spending as much time mixing their factor using the Mix2Vial^™, and they know it’s better than having to uncap all of those needles and forgetting what goes where.

The boys find Mix2Vial^™ easy to use and they feel very comfortable doing it. When the boys first tried Mix2Vial^™, the first thing they said was, “That wasn’t so bad. That was kind of easy and kind of fun.” And that’s a good thing!
