The Perfect Mother’s Day

What would be my perfect Mother’s Day? I want the world to stop for a day. It would be sunny, and I would have a bubble bath and read a good book. I would be able to read a book for an hour without being interrupted. Most of all, I wouldn’t have to go anywhere, or do anything. I’d just stay home and relax. I wouldn’t have to go to baseball, basketball, football, lacrosse, or any of those things. And I wouldn’t have to do factor that day. That would be a bonus. I don’t need chocolates, I don’t need flowers, but tell me I don’t have to do factor and that nothing hurts anywhere and that’ll be a good, if not perfect, Mother’s Day for me. I just want everyone to be happy, have fun, and relax, and for once not to feel like we’re on a schedule.

But do you know the best part of any Mother’s Day? It’s when you know the kids have worked two weeks in school to create something personal to bring home to you. When they make things at school, it’s awesome, because they get so excited and they want to tell you, and they don’t want to tell you, and then they tell you that they have something, but they can’t tell you what it is! It’s a big production when they bring it home and they have it all hidden in their backpacks and they have to go find a hiding space for it and everything. It’s fun. Those gifts are the ones you save, even when they’re atrocious, because they’re so pleased with what they’ve created. I have a hard time getting rid of things sometimes, and I’ll say, “Oh, gosh, this was how many years ago? I don’t really want to get rid of this!” So you find another place to pack it away for another 5 years…

It’s not the fact that they’re giving you something on Mother’s Day, but just to experience the smile on their faces. Priceless. Absolutely priceless.
